By Sarina Fazan

TAMPA, Fla. - Are you ever curious about the real lives of politicians, celebrities, local newsmakers and athletes?

Each week, ABC Action News asks 10 questions of a Bay area leader, politician or even national celebrity.

We go beyond the questions that are news of the day. After all sometimes, we want know more about them. What's their favorite music? Greatest success? And who do they look up to?

This week we hear from one of our local politicians, U.S. Representative Dennis Ross.

Ross was born in Lakeland, Florida and is the youngest of five children. He lived in the Lakeland community most his life except for a short period when he was in college.

He attended the University of Florida before transferring to Auburn University. He graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from the School of Business

Ross went on to receive a law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Alabama.

He had just gotten married to his wife Cindy, whom he had to leave behind for a while to pursue his dream of law.

His story is inspiring. As a young attorney he started working for the well-known law firm of Holland & Knight as an associate. Then after just two years, he became in-house counsel for Walt Disney World, handling workers' compensation defense matters for the company.

But Ross had bigger ambitions. Here is just one of many examples of his determination to succeed.

He borrowed $10,000 from a neighbor to open up his own law practice. His firm not only grew to seven lawyers and several employees he also paid off that debt in less than a year.

The law firm had a successful run and then Ross decided to pursue his next dream, politics. Ross was elected to the state legislature in 2000, where he served for four terms.

Then in 2010, Ross was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He currently sits on the House Financial Services Committee.

Ross has always been very active in the community. He served as past president of the Lakeland Bar Association, Board Member of the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce and is involved with various charity and community boards.

He said his entire family are firm believers in giving back to their community. Speaking of family, this segment always gives us the opportunity to learn more of the personal side.

Ross and Cindy are the proud parents of two sons, Shane and Travis. This is so neat! The family enjoys traveling throughout the United States and to date have been to each of the 48 continental states.

They do this predominantly by motor home and with their several family dogs.

Ross said the whole family shares a passion for American history, national parks, and the great outdoors.

Ross is an avid hunter and he said so are his boys. The trio not only enjoy hunting, but they also like to fish and camp.
