Welcome Redstate Readers

  • I was honored to be highlighted today by Redstate.com.  As the piece said, I am not the same Dennis Ross that currently works for the Obama Administration.  On the contrary, I have worked for years against the “public option” in Florida, namely our state owned property insurer.  (See this article)

For those of you who do not know me, you can access my bio here.  I am a practicing conservative who believes in the five principles by which we used to judge every piece of legislation when I was in the Florida House.

    1. Does it reduce Government?
    2. Does it lower taxes?
    3. Does it promote personal responsibility?
    4. Does it promote and foster individual freedom?
    5. Does it empower families to make choices that best meet their needs?

I have, on many occasions, had the opportunity to do more than talk the talk.  For example, in 2007, when I was in the State Legislature, we voted to expand the government owned property insurer in Florida, Citizens Property Insurance, as well as the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund.  There were two legislators who voted against this “public option” for insurance, and I was one.  For my vote, I was stripped of my committee chairmanship and relegated to the back bench.  But, the next morning the sun came up, the bird chirped, my dogs needed to be taken outside, and I could look my constituents in the face and tell them that I voted my principles, not my party.

I believe in the free market and the power of individuals to make America grow.  I believe that the entrepreneur and the risk taker should be rewarded with the fruits of their labor and that trial lawyers and government stifle the natural ability of Americans to prosper.  I believe that health care needs MORE competition, not more government.  I believe that the IRS should end, the Fed should be audited, and the Fair Tax or the Flat Tax should replace the income tax.  I believe the death tax should die and the Capital Gains tax should end.  I believe that parents should have a choice where they educate their children and teachers should be paid on merit.  I believe that the 2nd Amendment is an individual right and that we must always protect the unborn.  I am not a fanatic or a zealot.  I will work with people of goodwill to see that real competition, real markets, and real reductions take place, even if we don’t always agree.

I thank you for taking the time to visit my website and if you would consider supporting this campaign financially, I would be most grateful.  On to Victory!
